When I was a child, I spent countless hours in the bathroom—not brushing my hair, but mixing “potions” from whatever I could find in the cabinets. Toothpaste and baby powder. Shampoo (Body on Tap, of course) with a splash of my dad’s Old Spice or my brother’s Hai Karate. I’d stir them in paper cups and test them on my baby dolls, convinced I was creating something magical. Oh, to be a kid again.

At seven, I made my first candle—a little green frog. That sparked a love for crafting that grew into snow candles, tapered candles, and eventually soap and lotions. But like many of us, I drifted away from the things I loved. Corporate jobs came and went, and after a few layoffs and company closures, I found myself with time—and a choice. I chose to return to what made me feel most like myself.

Red Fern Gifts & Essentials was born in that space of rediscovery. What started in an extra bedroom quickly grew into shelves of handmade soaps, lotions, and candles. Then came the baking—another love rooted in childhood. I spent hours watching my mother bake pies, cakes, and cookies, especially during the holidays. I still use her recipes today, and every time I do, I feel her with me.

Why the name Red Fern? The red fern is said to symbolize new beginnings, hope, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. For me, it represents a return to joy—a love for creating, for sharing, and for building something meaningful from the ground up.
